Oklahoma State is so loaded with experience that the biggest transition into the 2011 season may involve a coach.
Todd Monken possesses NFL experience, which is certainly an asset after both quarterback Brandon Weeden and wide receiver Justin Blackmon passed, somewhat surprisingly, on entering the draft following exceptional years.
Now they must play for a new coordinator.
The Cowboys contended for the South Division title in the Big 12 before falling to Oklahoma in the last game of the regular season. Breakthroughs were made as OSU finished 11-2, some of which treaded ancient history. Weeden became the first All-League quarterback since 1932, and an undefeated road run was the first for the Cowboys since 1945.
That is the kind of success any coach wants to duplicate as the Cowboys look to contend in the revised Big 12. Not only will Weeden again pull the trigger while relying on Blackmon as a go-to receiver, but depth exists at the skill positions and Oklahoma State can mix up the attack with a solid run game that could feature its top incoming recruit, Herschel Sims.
The defense will be imposing to compliment the high powered offense.
